The GNWT's remarkable progress on immigration.
The final report on the Northwest Territories (NWT) Immigration Strategy for 2017 to 2022, from the Government of the NWT (GNWT) shows significant improvement in immigration outcomes in the region. This transformation was possible thanks to the implementation of a series of bold initiatives aimed at encouraging the development of a highly qualified workforce and the diversification of the economy.
This positive development stems from the implementation of multiple strategies developed by the GNWT in recent years. In December 2020, a multi-year funding agreement was concluded with the Collège Nordique Francophone (CNF) to offer language assessments, including the French Evaluation Test – Test d'évaluation de français (TEF), which has become an essential requirement for many immigration applications.
The invaluable contribution of the CNF through its programs.
Our Collège plays a central role in making this strategy a reality, in particular through our language training programs for newcomers, as well as our language skills assessment tests. These language trainings and assessments are of vital importance because they enable candidates to successfully integrate into NWT society by improving their English and French skills.
For example, Collège Nordique offers free English classes to newcomers, including refugees and permanent residents. The objective is twofold: to promote harmonious integration into society while opening up professional opportunities in their field of expertise.
A new program in French (CLIC) for newcomers
To further support government initiatives, the CNF is launching an innovative program called CLIC (Cours de Langue pour Immigrants au Canada- Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada). This program is aimed at those who wish to learn French as a second language. It also aims to strengthen the presence of French within the NWT and improve immigration performance, thus helping to diversify the workforce and stimulate the regional economy.
The CNF will continue to work tirelessly to meet the needs of newcomers and, without a doubt, will continue to make a valuable contribution to support the efforts of the GNWT.
