This course introduces the essential principles of early childhood education in the Canadian context, taking into account linguistic, cultural, northern, and Indigenous realities. Learners explore the role of the early childhood educator, pedagogical foundations, and the competencies required to support the holistic development of young children.
The course is structured around several essential themes: foundations of early childhood education, pedagogical approaches and their reference frameworks, holistic child development, inclusion and diversity, educational practices and tools, the organization of learning environments, as well as planning and professional reflection.
By the end of this training, you will be able to:
Recognize the main pedagogical approaches and theoretical frameworks that guide early childhood education practices;
Understand the foundations, goals, and specific features of early childhood education in the Canadian context;
Promote inclusive educational practices that respect cultural, linguistic, and individual diversity;
Design and organize safe, structured learning environments that foster children’s autonomy and active participation.
This course is intended for:
Individuals who work or wish to work in the early childhood sector in Northern Canada;
Educational assistants and students in education who work or wish to work in the early childhood sector in Northern Canada.
