On Thursday December 7, Collège Nordique successfully held its annual meeting: a moment dedicated to taking a look back on the past year. The event brought together members of the Board of Directors and members of the Franco-Ténoise community.
The ceremony began with a prayer led by Georgina Franki, paying tribute to the Indigenous peoples who have disappeared. This symbolic moment strengthened the connection between participants and served as a duty of remembrance.
The meeting continued with a speech by College President Angélique Ruzindana Umunyana, who thanked everyone in the room and took the opportunity to call for nominations to fill the vacancies on the Board of Directors that will arise at the end of the current mandates.
It was also an opportunity to highlight her exceptional commitment and that of Georgina Franki, who have distinguished themselves by winning the prestigious Jean-Dubé 2023 Award and the NWT Literacy Award respectively. A gift giving presentation took place.
The ceremony continued with a speech by General Director Patrick Arsenault, highlighting the diversity within Collège Nordique, bringing together Francophones, Anglophones and Allophones. He stressed the importance of collaborating with Indigenous communities, notably in projects such as Gonàowoò Dehshe.
The Director stated the college's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), marking a significant step towards a harmonious and inclusive community.
«The college is proud to deepen its relationships with Indigenous and diverse communities, responding to our community’s call to better connect with different cultures, promoting harmonious coexistence and a deeper mutual understanding» Patrick Arsenault
The heads of the various departments then spoke, presenting the projects and results for the year 2023.
Marie-France Lanteigne, Director of Training and Student Success, highlighted the multitude of professional development projects developed in various fields, the fruitful partnerships with the Université de l'Ontario Français (UOF), Collège La Cité and Université de Hearst, as well as the exponential growth in total enrolment in courses, workshops and trainings.
