On June 12, 2025, Collège Nordique opened its doors to Yellowknife businesses and organizations for a day of meaningful dialogue and promising partnerships.

Strong momentum around workplace training

Collège Nordique enthusiastically welcomed more than 75 participants from local businesses and organizations. Throughout the day, the deepening conversations reflected the humanity and richness of the people of the North.
This first open house gave attendees a clearer understanding of the College’s pedagogical approach and how it can be tailored to northern realities.

A dynamic and accessible program

Businesses that have chosen to trust Collège Nordique with the training of their staff shared their experiences with sincerity and generosity. Their testimonials highlighted the tangible impact of tailored training on skills development, employee retention, and the essential need to offer services in French in the North.

This gathering also opened the door to a collective reflection on the future of training opportunities. Participants shared concrete ideas to take things even further, such as:

  • The development of language training programs aligned with the growing demand in the tourism sector;
  • The creation of French courses tailored to specific professional environments — including high-pressure workplaces (emergency services, hospitality, healthcare, etc.) — to better prepare professionals to communicate effectively in French, even under stressful circumstances.

These collaborative ideas reinforce our commitment to working hand in hand with partners to truly listen to the needs on the ground and co-create training solutions that are genuinely adapted to the realities of the North.

Later in the day, discovery workshops were offered for free in French, English, Tłı̨chǫ, and Spanish, both in person and online. These sessions gave participants a hands-on opportunity to experience our flexible, interactive teaching methods — and to meet our wonderful multicultural teaching team.

The networking lunch provided a warm and welcoming setting to continue conversations, strengthening connections between participants, team members, and our partners.

In the afternoon, the second roundtable featured learners who shared their journeys and the progress they’ve made thanks to the training they received. We sincerely thank each of them for their presence and heartfelt testimonials. You are living proof that the College’s mission has a real impact on the community — whether it’s supporting your children’s French-language learning, fostering greater inclusion, expanding your skillset in your professional life, learning for pleasure, or beyond.

A confirmed mission

The strong turnout and level of engagement at this first open house day reflect Collège Nordique’s deep commitment to developing northern skills, supporting the vitality of the Francophonie, and strengthening collaboration between the educational and professional sectors.

A dedicated team and invaluable allies

An event like this would not have been possible without the outstanding involvement of many individuals.

We would like to acknowledge:

  • Corine Nitsiza, who led the Tłı̨chǫ workshops and created the beautiful beaded earrings;
  • The Yellowknives Dene Drummers, whose presence brought an essential and unifying cultural dimension to the day;
  • Nikola Petkovic, a dedicated volunteer who helped with setup the day before and throughout the entire event.

And of course, the dedication and passion of the entire Collège Nordique team — day in and day out — to provide the very best to our learners.
