Collège Nordique proudly congratulates Tamlin Gilbert, one of our instructors, on receiving an Honourable Mention at the Association québécoise de pédagogie collégiale (AQPC) Conference, held in Drummondville, Quebec.

This distinction recognizes the excellence and professionalism of his work in college education. It also reflects his commitment to student success and his ongoing dedication to high-quality teaching practices.

Beyond the recognition itself, attending the conference gave Tamlin the opportunity to take part in one of Canada's leading events dedicated to college pedagogy.

An opportunity to learn, connect and represent the North

Bringing together more than 1,500 participants, the annual AQPC Conference welcomes educators, post-secondary professionals and partners from across the college network to exchange ideas, share research and explore innovative teaching practices.

Throughout the conference, Tamlin attended workshops, visited exhibitor booths and connected with colleagues from a wide range of institutions.

"I tried to attend as many workshops as I could and talk to as many people as possible. My French is still a work in progress, but it was a great opportunity to practise it," he says.

Conversations with exhibitors introduced him to a variety of educational resources, including classroom materials designed for engineering students and books by Indigenous authors published in their original languages alongside French or English translations.

The workshops also gave him a deeper understanding of Quebec's CEGEP system and the teaching approaches that distinguish it from other post-secondary models across Canada.

"I learned a lot about what makes the Quebec CEGEP system different from other education systems in Canada."

Among the presentations that stood out most were sessions exploring the influence of punk culture on education and the early days of the Internet, topics that encouraged him to reflect on the evolution of teaching and learning.

A meaningful recognition

The highlight of the conference was the awards ceremony, where Tamlin received his Honourable Mention from the AQPC.

Award recipients gathered before entering the banquet hall together, where they were welcomed by hundreds of colleagues with enthusiastic applause.

"Being cheered by so many people was a very unique experience. It was both touching and a little surreal."

While he is honoured by the recognition, Tamlin says the appreciation he receives from his colleagues and students remains the most meaningful part of his work.

"What matters most to me is being appreciated by the people I work with and by the students I teach. I'm grateful that my manager nominated me for this honour."

Inspiration to continue making a difference

Beyond the award itself, what stayed with Tamlin most was the enthusiasm and dedication of the educators he met throughout the conference.

"What stood out to me most was the passion educators have for their profession. It's the same passion I see every day among my colleagues at Collège Nordique."

The experience allowed him to build new professional connections, discover inspiring teaching practices and represent Collège Nordique at one of Canada's leading gatherings dedicated to college pedagogy.

The entire Collège Nordique team once again congratulates Tamlin Gilbert on this well-deserved recognition. His commitment to teaching, his openness to continuous learning and his desire to continually strengthen his practice contribute every day to the quality of the student experience and to the success of our institution.
