What if your summer shopping became the perfect opportunity to practice a second — or even third — language?

The Collège Nordique is launching a brand-new summer initiative combining community, language learning, and casual conversation: multilingual exchanges at the Yellowknife Farmers' Market!

From June 17 to September 16 2025, join us every Tuesday from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. at Somba K’e Civic Plaza (4910 52nd Street) for a gentle, informal immersion into the languages that shape our territory.

A unique outdoor language activity!

In the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere of the Farmers’ Market, Collège Nordique volunteers will be on site to chat with you in French, English, Tłı̨chǫ, Wıìlı̀ıdeh, or Spanish — your choice! Whether you want to learn, practice, or simply share a few words, you’ll always find a friendly ear ready for a chat.

No need to register: stroll through the stands and let the magic of conversation unfold.

Buttons to break the ice

Starting a conversation in another language can be tricky — we get it! That’s why we’ve created colourful language buttons. By wearing one, you can show which languages you speak or would like to practice.

A few examples:

• “I would like to practice my English”
• “Tłı̨chǫ Yatıı̀ t'à gots'ııde”
• “Wıı̀lıı̀deh Yatıı̀ t'à gots'ııde”
• “Hablemos español”

The Yellowknife Farmers’ Market is the heartbeat of the city in summertime. Every Tuesday, the plaza comes alive with fresh produce, handmade goods, music, and laughter. It’s where cultures and generations meet — and now, where languages meet too!

An activity open to the entire community!

No need to be a Collège Nordique student — this activity is free and open to everyone. Whether you’re curious, a total beginner, or a passionate polyglot, you’re welcome to join us!
