This fall, LINC and CLIC learners took part in two meaningful activities that combined language learning, cultural immersion, and community connection. First, a festive Halloween bowling evening, followed by an enriching visit to the Nature’s North Wildlife Museum: two different yet complementary opportunities to practice language in real-life contexts and experience northern life.
Bowling Center Yellowknife — October 30, 2025
Thirty-five LINC and CLIC learners participated in a Halloween-themed bowling activity, joined by several members of the Collège Nordique team.
Over 2.5 hours, participants practiced English and French in a lively atmosphere filled with music, laughter, and authentic interactions. They expanded their vocabulary related to sports, Halloween, and everyday communication. Some even brought the pumpkins they had carved in class, strengthening the festive and community spirit of the evening.
The activity ended with a shared pizza meal, providing a warm and informal setting that encouraged spontaneous conversations and helped build linguistic confidence.

Nature’s North Wildlife Museum — November 15, 2025
A few weeks later, fifteen learners took part in a bilingual guided tour of the Nature’s North Wildlife Museum.
The purpose of this outing was to offer a respectful and authentic introduction to the cultures of Indigenous peoples in the North. Through the guide’s explanations, participants learned about the deep connections between Indigenous communities and the land, the cultural and spiritual significance of various animals, and the importance of these traditions in stories and subsistence practices.

The bilingual approach ensured accessible understanding for all. Instructors supported learning by asking questions, reinforcing thematic vocabulary, and encouraging moments of interaction.
Many learners shared that they left the activity with a deeper appreciation of the relationship to the land, the richness of Indigenous knowledge, and the importance of truth and reconciliation.

Whether cultural or community-based, these two activities provided learners with concrete and engaging opportunities to practice their language skills. They helped build confidence, support integration, and create meaningful bridges between newcomers, the local community, and Indigenous realities.
Through these experiences, participants not only advanced in their language learning, but also deepened their understanding of the North and the role of Collège Nordique as a place of learning and connection.
