National Francophone Immigration Week — November 2 to 8, 2025

In Yellowknife, francophonie is woven through many different life paths. It grows richer every time a newcomer chooses to settle here, to live in French, to contribute to the community, and to bring new ways of shaping life in the North.

This year, National Francophone Immigration Week invites us to express one simple, essential word: thank you.

Thank you to the people who share their languages, their skills, their traditions, and their ways of seeing the world.

Thank you to the people who open doors — in schools, services, businesses, organizations, cultural spaces, and community hubs.

Thank you to those who help keep francophonie alive in a northern context, where every act of transmission matters.

Today, more than two out of three members of the Collège Nordique team come from diverse cultural, linguistic, or geographic backgrounds — a concrete reflection of the francophone plurality that shapes Yellowknife.

In a time marked by inflation, a housing crisis, and the rise of hostile rhetoric, it is important to remember a simple truth: immigration strengthens communities. It supports essential services, stimulates the economy, broadens perspectives, and helps sustain a minority language.

This week, we simply want to say: thank you.

Thank you for contributing to francophonie in the North.
Thank you for showing that linguistic and cultural diversity is a strength.
