La poésie prend les parcs (French activity, multilingual support available)

At the Farmers Market, take part in La poésie prend les parcs, a French-language creative activity bringing poetry, chalk and the outdoors together in the heart of Yellowknife.

Along the chalk poetry trail, participants can randomly select excerpts of French-language poetry provided on site and recreate them in chalk between the Loraine Minish-Cooper Garden of Hope and the end of the Flag Walk. Original compositions are also welcome, adding to this colourful, collaborative trail.

At the heart of the trail, Franco-Ténoise poet Amber O’Reilly will lead a found poetry and blackout poetry workshop. Media and scientific articles suspended from the trees will serve as source texts. Participants can select and rearrange words and excerpts, adding their own words to create a new poem in French.

The activity is free and all materials are provided.

No need to be fluent in French to participate: workshop instructions can also be provided in English, Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese.

This activity aims to highlight the French language and poetry in public spaces while bringing together French-language learners, newcomers and the Yellowknife community through a creative arts activity.
