YELLOWKNIFE (June 12, 2026) – Collège nordique francophone (CNF), NWT Literacy Council and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) are proud to announce the official opening of a new bilingual literacy outreach centre in Yellowknife.

Located within the CNF premises, the centre offers services in both French and English to meet the diverse needs of learners, families, and individuals seeking literacy support and skills development. The GNWT is providing $400,000 in funding as part of its commitment to supporting accessible adult learning opportunities across the territory.

Built on a collaborative model, the project draws on the complementary expertise of both Collège nordique francophone and the NWT Literacy Council. It offers a range of activities and services, including:

  • Family and community literacy programs
  • Workshops focused on digital, financial, and employment-related skills
  • Tutoring services
  • English and French language courses

The centre, which officially opens today, provides an accessible and inclusive environment that supports residents in developing the skills and confidence to thrive in their community.

Rosie Benning, Director of Training and Education at Collège nordique francophone, said:

“This centre reflects our commitment to making learning accessible to everyone, regardless of their background. By joining forces with the NWT Literacy Council, we are creating an inclusive space where individuals can develop their skills and thrive, in both French and English.”

Kathryn Barry Paddock, Executive Director at NWT Literacy Council, said:

“The NWT Literacy Council is pleased to partner with Collège nordique francophone on the Literacy Outreach Centre. For many years, the Literacy Outreach Centre provided supportive community-based literacy programming to learners in Yellowknife, and we look forward to the renewal of this valuable program.”

Caitlin Cleveland, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment at the Government of the Northwest Territories, declared:

“By increasing access to literacy and lifelong learning, we are building connected communities and a strong economic foundation. This new bilingual literacy outreach centre will provide residents of Yellowknife with inclusive, community-based programs and supports that help people strengthen essential skills, build confidence, and pursue new opportunities.
